Bacteria make up approximately half of all living matter on Earth. Some of them are harmless to human health, others can cause dangerous diseases. Perhaps unexpectedly many of them are also found in our homes. Don't know how to get rid of them? We will advise you in this article.
There are several types of bacteria in the common household. These include, for example, E. coli 0157, which can cause digestive diseases, Staphylococcus areus, which causes difficult-to-treat infections, and Clostridium difficile (C. diff.), which can lead to severe diarrhea. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to hygiene and to wash your hands well before and after preparing food and after using the toilet. The most effective way of defense in this case is to wash your hands with soap and hot water.
Which part of your home do you think has the most bacteria? If you are guessing toilet or bathroom, you are wrong. Most bacteria are in the kitchen. The reason is clear – it houses purchased food and works with food. Therefore, do not forget to wash the sink and the work surface around it every day and disinfect it at least once a week. Use preparations with antibacterial effects on the kitchen counter. A large amount of bacteria is also found in the trash can, so take it out every day.
The most bacteria are in the dish sponge
However, the biggest paradise for bacteria is the dish sponge. It is warm, humid and food remains often remain in it. Therefore, change the sponges often enough, do not wait until they start to smell or even fall apart.
However, the bathroom also teems with bacteria. It is found in the bathtub, in the sink, but also in wet towels and washcloths. Therefore, dry the bathtub after every bath and regularly disinfect it. For this, for example, hydrogen peroxide is suitable. Be especially careful the moment you discover a reddish surface in the bathtub or shower. It is caused by the bacterium Sarratia marcescens, which can cause an unpleasant urinary tract infection.
Wash the laundry at 60 °C
But microbes also thrive in dirty underwear, especially underwear, because excrement particles stick to it during wear. Therefore, wash this garment at a minimum temperature of 60 °C, and you will succeed in killing microbes. Even so, you have not completely won - if you forget the washed clothes in the washing machine for a while, other microbes will soon appear in them. Therefore, if possible, put it in the dryer immediately after washing. As for the toilet, don't forget to clean the flush and toilet brush in addition to the cutting board.
However, four hundred times more bacteria than on the toilet seat are found on the desk. This is due to the fact that we reach for electronics more often than things in the toilet, and at the same time, unlike the toilet, we do not clean it regularly. You can fix this with disinfectant wipes, but always read the information on the package. You can also take care of switches, handles and handles in the same way. There are also more than enough bacteria on them.
