How to properly clean the kitchen

The wish of every housewife is a clean, sparkling home without harmful bacteria. We will advise you on how to properly clean worktops, sinks, kitchen counters and thus get rid of dangerous bacteria and have a beautifully clean and shiny kitchen.

Worktop

  • Probably the most common material for work surfaces is laminate. Wipe the laminate worktop with a solution of common dishwashing detergent or a universal cleaner with antibacterial effects. Then do not wash the surface with water.
  • For stubborn stains, apply a slightly abrasive cream cleaner or bleach diluted according to the instructions. Use a plastic bristle brush for textured surfaces.
  • Marker stains can be removed either with thinner, denatured alcohol or ordinary nail polish remover.
  • Solid surfaces (handmade) are cleaned in the same way as laminate. If the surface is of a light color, never leave the stains on for a long time, you might not be able to get rid of them. After prolonged contact of the solvent with the surface of the worktop, it may be damaged. If you use a stain remover, remember to immediately rinse the surface of the worktop thoroughly.
  • Stubborn stains will "loose" after gentle scrubbing with bleach or an abrasive cream cleaner.
  • Stainless steel surface - you must first thoroughly remove all fingerprints from this surface. Then wipe the entire surface with a clean cloth on which you put a few drops of table or baby oil. After thorough cleaning, use a solution of dishwashing detergent and dry the entire surface with a soft, clean cloth.
  • With surfaces made of natural materials (wood and granite), we certainly don't need to remind you how quickly they get dirty, which is why it is necessary to wipe the surface immediately. You can simply sand the stains with a wire brush or smooth them with glass paper.
  • The granite surface is cleaned in the same way as laminate. However, be careful and watch out for cracks in the board. Wipe the granite work surface with a soft, dry cloth. Granite is really hard to get dirty, so 99.9% of it can be cleaned with undiluted dishwashing detergent.
  • Wash the plastic cutting boards with hot soapy water, then dry them thoroughly. Sometimes stains remain on these cutting boards even after cleaning. Try soaking the cutting board in a weak bleach solution overnight.
  • Always scrub the classic wooden cutting board after use with hot soapy water and rinse. Never leave a wooden cutting board in water longer than absolutely necessary! It would absorb a lot of water, swell and crack when it dries. So never let it soak! Leave the wooden board to dry naturally, leaning against an edge so that it does not warp. At the same time, you will prevent the rapid growth of bacteria.
  • Do not use cracked, damaged or dirty cutting boards. Eliminate them immediately!

Sinks

  • Always simply wipe the composite sink with a damp cloth and a universal dishwashing detergent. Use a coarser sponge for limescale and tea and coffee stains.
  • Stainless steel, enameled and colored sinks are cleaned in the same way, just wipe them with a solution of washing-up liquid and a damp cloth.
  • If you have a colored sink at home, never let stains from tea, fruit juices and coffee dry. Always wash them on time. If you can't, soak stubborn stains in a solution of biological washing powder or diluted bleach.
  • Don't forget the waste pipes. Once a week, pour a boiling solution of 2 tablespoons of soda and 1 liter of water into them. This rule does not only apply to sinks, but also to sinks and bathtubs.
  • For a more thorough cleaning, choose an undiluted universal liquid or cream cleaner for a stainless steel sink, rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. If you have hard water, then it is advisable to use a descaling or stainless steel cleaner once a week.
  • If you use bleach, never pour it down the drain undiluted! It can cause unsightly stains.
  • Experts do not recommend using descaling products for an enameled sink.

Kitchen lines

  • Use only a damp cloth with a detergent solution on kitchen units made of wood or wood veneer. Always rub along the grain!
  • High gloss surfaces scratch very easily. Therefore, wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Always check that the cloth is really clean (so that there are no grains or other coarse dirt on it that could damage the surface).
  • Wipe colored kitchen cabinets and imitation wood cabinets with a damp cloth and detergent solution, or use a slightly abrasive cream cleaner. Be careful not to wet the surface too much!
  • Occasionally coat the shelves on which you place food with vinegar water (1 to 2 tablespoons of vinegar in a glass of water). This will get rid of unpleasant odors and at the same time prevent the formation of mold.
  • An old toothbrush and diluted bleach or a slurry of chalk and water are ideal for cleaning the joints. Cover the entire tiled wall with this paste. Wait for the mixture to dry and then wipe the tiles with a clean, dry cloth. The gray stripes in the joints will disappear and the tiles will shine beautifully.
  • You can try to remove greasy stains on wallpapers with a thick slurry of potato starch and gasoline. You apply the slurry to the stain and when the gasoline evaporates, simply remove it with a brush. For washable wallpapers, you can use a sponge dipped in warm soapy water. Then always wipe it dry with a clean, dry cloth. Never press the sponge or cloth!
  • Especially behind the stove, greasy spots appear on the painting - put a piece of glass wool in a clean nylon stocking, soak it in water and lightly rub the smeared areas with it. Wipe the surfaces cleaned in this way with a damp cloth. Work with gloves so that the glass wool does not injure you.
