Cleaning up after guinea pigs
Author: EkoBIT team
Joy and worry. Pets often do this to us. In order for them to thrive, they also need a healthy and especially clean environment. Guinea pigs often give us the most cleaning worries. In many cases, we clean their cages insufficiently and less than ideally. However, in the extreme case, we can also endanger their health. That is also why it is advisable to think of tricks, thanks to which we can significantly shorten the entire cleaning process.
In most cases, a guinea pig's cage cannot do without daily cleaning. We should remove excess food from it that the guinea pig did not have time to eat. Thanks to hot water, we should wash all the dishes and then wipe them dry. Let's also regularly replace the hay, which should always be really fresh.
A guinea pig cage needs general cleaning at least once a week. Rubber gloves, citric acid, paper towels and a spray bottle with a vinegar solution come in handy. Carefully remove everything from the cage first, then wash with hot water. Spray it with vinegar in a spray bottle and leave it on for at least ten minutes. Then rinse the cage and wipe it dry.
Vinegar is for household cleaning a really great helper and is also suitable for a whole range of other ecological cleanings. Vinegar not only cleans, but also disinfects. It also removes odor.
When cleaning the guinea pigs' homes, also focus on ensuring that your pets have dry bedding under them. The wet one can cause them an upper respiratory infection or even an eye infection, and you really don't want to cause that to them.
