How to remove graffiti from your house

Damage to house facades with spray-painted creations known as graffiti is now a daily reality in every city. However, if the house is not continuously guarded or protected by a high fence, there is no effective way to prevent the sprayers from operating. And so homeowners must use all available means to help remove graffiti from the facade.

With graffiti, the paint is also removed

Graffiti can be removed mechanically (by sanding, scraping, rubberizing, wiping) or chemically (using gasoline, alcohol, solvents), but each time the color also disappears from the facade. It is therefore worthwhile to subsequently treat the wall with a special coating (for example, the Swiss Atramex). After 24 hours, the graffiti can be washed off with a special remover up to two hundred times in a row, while the paint remains undamaged.

Prevention is the most effective

• In abandoned risky parts of the city, it is worthwhile to equip the facade of the house with a protective surface as a precaution, which will facilitate the removal of possible spray patterns.
• Experts recommend a special varnish for non-absorbent substrates (stone plinths, glass, metal, glazed tiles). The varnish layer will protect the original material and graffiti can be removed from it without any major problems. The disadvantage of varnish is that it optically changes the appearance of the surface and is therefore unsuitable, for example, for lime plaster or a sandstone wall. In addition, varnish prevents the permeability of water vapor, so it is not suitable for expensive remedial plasters.
• Classic absorbent plasters are best treated with an impregnating substance similar to wax or silicate paint.
• Anti graffiti wax impregnation agent has the ability to transmit water vapor and not change the appearance of the facade. It is applied by high-pressure spraying equipment. Graffiti can then only be removed with hot water under pressure. The disadvantage is that the wax disappears along with the graffiti and the impregnation must therefore be renewed.
• Silicate paints are recommended especially for historic buildings for their perfect breathability. Thanks to a special binder (potassium water glass), silicate paints can even strengthen older and lower quality plaster. The paint cannot be removed from the facade, so if the sprayer is damaged, another coat is needed.
• Recently, however, a special Flagranti silicate paint has appeared on the market, which can be removed with water.
