Oil stains on clothes or other woven materials are very unpleasant and difficult to remove. But there are several ways to remove the stain and get rid of it forever. Read our how-to guide.
Never run cold water on an oil stain. Not only will you not clean the oil, but you will significantly worsen the whole situation. Why? Because the fat will spread even more thanks to the water and the stain will get bigger.
Use the JAR first
If oil has gotten on your clothes and caused a greasy stain, whether it's edible oil, i.e. the kind you use at home, or motor oil, the first thing you should try is the classic JAR for dishes. JAR is a strong degreaser.
How to proceed
- Drizzle a little spring on the stain. Rub it gently with a clean dish sponge and leave it on for 5 minutes. Then wash the fiber in an automatic washing machine.
If JAR didn't help, try bile soap
In case JAR did not help, try the second option, which is bile soap. This is used to remove grease, starch and protein stains. It contains ox bile and biodegradable substances from renewable plant raw materials. It is sold in liquid or solid form. For this purpose, it is better to choose liquid soap. You can buy it in any good drugstore and it costs around 100 CZK.
How to proceed
- Rub the oil stain with bile soap and let it sit for a few minutes. After about 5-10 minutes, wash off the soap with a wet sponge. If it didn't help, rub the stain again with this soap, let it work again and then wash it in the washing machine.
Tip: Bile soap is of animal origin and you can also use it to remove stains from blood, albumen or dirty nappies of your little ones.
There is also a variant with vinegar, which is usually 100%
Since vinegar contains about 8% citric acid, it is very suitable for removing oil stains. If you don't have vinegar on hand, you can also use lemon itself. If you don't have vinegar or lemon, you have to run to the samoshka.
How to proceed
- Again, rub a little vinegar on the oil-stained area, or sprinkle with lemon. Leave it on for a few minutes and try rinsing with warm water. Afterwards, we recommend washing the clothes in the washing machine.
