Why is hand hygiene important?
The world around us is full of viruses and bacteria. During the day, we touch various things, and bacteria and viruses get on our hands, from which they can easily enter the body and can cause very serious diseases. In addition to common diseases, it can be, for example, salmonella or jaundice, which is literally called dirty hands disease. By properly observing hand hygiene, we can easily avoid diseases and save ourselves a lot of trouble.
Correct hand washing procedure
- Wet our hands in warm and clean water, then stop the water
- Apply a sufficient amount of soap to the palm of your hand
- We rub the soap into foam by rubbing our hands and rub it thoroughly all over our hands by intertwining our fingers
- With the left hand, rub the back of the right hand and do not miss the space between the fingers. We repeat the procedure with the other hand
- Intertwine your fingers and rub them together to clean the inside of your fingers
- Clean both thumbs with a clenched fist
- Make a well in the palm of your hand, pinch the fingers of the other hand at the tip and lather the fingertips together with the nails in the well
- Finally, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a clean towel or cloth.

Hand disinfection
If we don't have a bathroom with soap and warm water within reach, it is still possible to maintain hand hygiene using antibacterial gels and other disinfectants that we can buy in every pharmacy and drug store. The procedure is the same as for washing hands, but we do not need running water. We apply the gel to our hands in the same way as soap and do not rinse or dry at the end, the gel is absorbed into the hands by itself.
